Join the Magical World of Matilda Jr. the Musical!

Calling all young performers! Step into the extraordinary world of Matilda Jr. the Musical, a heartwarming and high-energy production based on Roald Dahl’s beloved book. Despite being misunderstood by her neglectful parents and facing the cruelty of her school’s headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, Matilda discovers she has a special gift that helps her stand up for herself and her friends. With the support of her kind teacher, Miss Honey, she learns to embrace her strength and intelligence, proving that even the smallest voices can create big change. Filled with catchy songs, exciting dance numbers, and unforgettable characters, this inspiring musical celebrates courage, creativity, and the power of standing up for what is right.


THIS PRODUCTION WILL PERFORM AT AREA STAGE’S BLACK BOX THEATRE IN SUNSET PLACE.

Class Requirements

  • Audition Information:
  • On the first day, students will audition to be cast in the production. Students should not stress over this process. Auditioning is a BIG part of theatre and this audition should be a fun part of the learning process. There are many roles and all students will be cast in the production.
  • Song - 16-32 bars (30 seconds to a minute) of a musical theatre song, preferably in the style of Beauty and the Beast.
  • Monologue - 1-minute monologue, preferably from a play.
  • Dance Audition - All students will learn a short dance combo to assess their abilities. Students should come in attire they can easily move in and bring dance shoes if they have them.
  • Cold Read - Students may also be asked to read roles from the script to assess where they best fit into the cast

Cancellation Policy

There will be no refunds of tuition fees for dropping out of the program. Should a participant have to withdraw due to a medical emergency, injury, or other crisis, refunds, if any, are made at the sole discretion of Area Stage.


What To Bring

  • Students should wear comfortable, close-toed shoes (with non-marking soles). If they have jazz dance shoes, please have them bring them.
  • Students should bring water in a bottle labeled with their names. Water fountains will not be available, so a water bottle is essential.
  • Students should wear comfortable clothes. Theatre involves the whole body, and they will be moving around a lot!
  • All clothing must be "class appropriate". This means no sleepwear, no crop tops, no short shorts, no beachwear, etc.
  • Hair should be up, off the student's face.
  • Students will recieve their script at the first rehearsal and should bring it to every rehearsal.
  • No toys, no phones, iPads, and no other materials other than a water bottle and script will be allowed in the studio.
  • If your child has severe allergies, please provide Area Stage with your child's EpiPen.
  • Students will have a lunch break, please have them bring a lunch box. No refrigeration or microwave will be available. 
  • Students' shoes, lunch boxes, and water bottles should have name tags.
