- Get an inside look into the exciting world of Anime & Manga cartoon illustration In this fun and informative course! In a full class course you will learn:
Sample Class Format
- How to capture the fundamentals of facial features & anatomy within the Manga, Anime Art tradition.
- Lessons on figure drawing & proportion in one or more of the various styles: Shonen, Seinen, Shojo, Josei, or Kodomomuke.
- Demos in: shading with manga markers & inking.
- How to create your very own manga characters: Design human, animal, or Fantasy creatures in the anime style.
- How to manipulate anatomy and/ or facial features to give your characters unique identities.
- How to set your figures in dynamic action poses to make them pop and move on the page!
- Choose interesting poses + compositions- like a profile or 3/4 views or upshots and non-traditional angles which also sell their personalities.
- Create a Character Chart - with a color palette for Skin/Hair/Eyes/Clothing, and shading techniques in color for all Manga pens.

To reschedule a full semester, email us for a credit (less a $75 admin fee). No refunds will be provided.
What To Bring
- All Art Supplies are Included.
- Students are welcome to bring their own notebooks so they can track their progress and work at home.

Reed O.
Reed Oka MacLaren is a visual artist originally from Salem, Massachusetts with a BFA in Scenic Design for Theater from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers. He is a painter, sculptor, illustrator, and storyteller, most notably working on original self-published comic books, such as “If the Big Red Shoe Fits” and “The Outrageous Adventures of Fishlegs” trilogy. A former camp counselor, Reed is passionate about teaching and eager to inspire young artists to pursue and develop their craft.
