GrupoPLAY by Bilingüitos is a bilingual playgroup that hosts regular playdates for Spanish-speaking / bilingual families* in Lawndale, CA and the surrounding area. (Once registered, you'll get exact location details in our WhatsApp group chat - link in the confirmation email. The WhatsApp chat is the only place you’ll see the exact address listed for safety reasons.)
Usamos estos playdates para mostrarles a nuestros hijos el español en un contexto más amplio; fuera del hogar y del salón de clase. Nuestros niños podrán ver que el español no solo es una lengua "de mami y papi," o algo que aprenden en la escuela, sino un hermoso idioma que se usa en muchas comunidades, incluso por otros niños bilingües!
During these playdates, adults model peer-to-peer Spanish conversation, children bond over finding language commonalities, and overall, bilingualism is normalized and ultimately celebrated. Kids’ perspectives will shift as they begin to see the incredible value of being bilingual — when they see it as a superpower. At the end of the day, the true mission of GrupoPLAY is to unify the bilingual community in our area and to equip families to cultivate and celebrate bilingualism in their own circles of influence. All ages welcome :)
Please note this is not a class; this is a volunteer-led playgroup for already-bilingual families to have an opportunity to use their Spanish together. GrupoPLAY relies on everyone's participation to create an immersion environment for our bilingüitos. We aim to stay in Spanish during these play dates as much as possible. So please be prepared to maintain conversations in Spanish at the level you are able to, both among adults and adults to children (though it’s completely fine if you’re not fully fluent!).

>>Make sure to note the schedule by clicking the calendar icon. When you sign up, you can select all dates, or just the days that work for you. GrupoPLAY meet-up dates vary from group to group. Your GrupoPLAY Leader will let you know further details in the WhatsApp group.<<
>>If you can't make every meet-up, that is absolutely fine! But we do encourage you to put this on your calendar and make it a priority to attend as much as you can. The more you attend and pour into this community, the more you will get out of it as well. GrupoPLAY solo funciona si las familias se dedican a ser parte del grupo.<<

Love the idea of a skill based Spanish class- much more engaging than a typical Spanish class
Improvements:
Still unclear what time it ends, never seems to end on time which is hard for bedtime Speaking/reminding to the kids that it doesn’t have to be perfect, my 5 yr old gets discouraged by not making a perfect picture :/. Other drawing channels sometimes have good slogans like “the most important thing is to have fun and practice - it doesn’t have to look like the teacher”

This class is fun and engaging. Kaila is kind, attentive, and keeps my 5 year old's attention. I love that it's mostly in Spanish but that she offers support to meet all students where they are at, and that my son is getting to do one of his favorite hobbies in Spanish! He looks forward to it every time!

About Bilingüitos Spanish Immersion
Bilingüitos exists to cultivate and celebrate bilingualism all around us. We are specifically passionate about equipping bilingual families to connect with their family's heritage language TOGETHER through meaningful connection. We do this virtually through interactive and engaging Spanish immersion classes, featuring our signature Bilingüitos curriculum developed by linguist and childhood bilingualism specialist Kaila Diaz.
Beyond the virtual classroom, we are a vibrant and diverse community of families who are passionate about bilingualism and dedicated to instilling a lifelong love for learning in their children. (Come hang out on Instagram to see what we mean! @bilinguitos) We also have several in-person communities around the United States that come together for Spanish language meet ups. We delight in bringing these local bilingual communities together through playdates, storytimes, seasonal parties, movie nights, and other events all around their area.
We believe that adding / maintaining a second language is not always easy, but that it is always, A L W A Y S worth it! Come celebrate bilingualism with us!
