Class Experience

In this class, students will have a chance to explore their passion for filmmaking and visual storytelling. Taking a hands-on approach, each student will be introduced to the filmmaking basics, including developing an idea into a script, shooting, directing, editing, and have an opportunity to create content as well as collaborate in a fun and supportive environment.

Notes

This class is meant to spark creativity and give students a chance to play in the video/filmmaking space. Students should be willing to participate in exercises and show their work in class.

  • Developing story/movie ideas, shot composition, basic lighting and editing, directing

Sample Class Format

  • 15-30 minute lecture, then hands-on work/workshopping/screenings.

Meet your Instructor

Joselito S.

I teach film production and screenwriting with a primarily hands-on or workshop approach, combined with some lectures. I am a filmmaker, love collaboration, and am currently working on financing my second independent feature and developing a cooking show pilot. I have been a screenwriter for 26 years and a producer and director for over 20 years, including live improv and sketch comedy, independent shorts, documentaries, music videos, and feature films.

About Trellis

We’re a team of seasoned homeschooling parents who are creating a secular, a-political place for learning.
Education outside of the conventional system doesn’t have to be done alone. We believe it’s about collaboration and respectful relationships.
Trellis is in Northeast Los Angeles and provides classes that nurture the hearts and minds of 10-20 year old students. By embracing a holistic approach to education, we offer interdisciplinary instruction, hands-on practice, life-skill classes, one-on-one tutoring, and student-led clubs alongside math and science that meet A-G requirements.
We tend to the whole family by offering a workspace, regular meet-ups, and education nights for parents.
Our mission is to provide experiences that will strengthen a child’s ability to shape themselves and engage in the world as active compassionate citizens.
Our vision is to provide a brave learning environment where we practice open and honest communication, inclusivity, and a love of learning.
