Class Experience
“Some Cupid kills with arrows, some with traps.”
Benedick & Beatrice think nothing of each other – until their friends trick them into realizing there’s something more between them. Featuring a bumbling sheriff, a deceitful brother, a wry Prince and a witty bride, Much Ado is one of Shakespeare’s beloved comedies.
Young people become confident with Shakespeare’s world, language and characters as they learn how to interpret a role with technique and courage through abridged versions of Shakespeare's plays. Classically trained professional actors assist the players in their physical, vocal and emotional transformations.
Class meets once a week, and culminates in a final performance on the last day!

Sample Class Format
- The first day of class will consist of ensemble-building games, learning the plot of the show and the characters.
- On the second day, students receive scripts and roles and we begin rehearsing.
- For the remainder of the semester, each day will comprise of a welcome circle, physical and vocal warm ups, rehersal, and a theater game to get us further into character.
- Class culminates in a performance open to family and friends.
Other Things To Know
Students will be tasked with memorizing lines and reviewing movement over the course of the semester.

What To Bring
- Students will be given a script on the second day of class, which they should bring back to rehearsal every week. One script is provided, if that script is lost families will print an electronic copy on their own.
- Base costumes for show day will come from children's own closets, additional props and costumes provided by Child's Play NY.

This was our first time signing up for a school break camp. Upon entering, the staff was very welcoming and had clearly read everything we shared about our son (requested information) prior to him coming in. At pick up I asked my son how his day was and he said he had a lot of fun and the teachers were very nice. He told me about playing and his adventure. He was happy to attend the next day and seemed very comfortable. Overall we had a very positive experience.

My child was always super happy at the end of the day. The classes had fun activities, while still challenging them to put on a play in a 5-day long camp. Pretty impressive!
Improvements:
We didn't need aftercare that week, but there are some weeks that I would have signed up for Child's Play if they had the option of aftercare.

My 4yo loved this camp so much. The instructors were so wonderful at making my son feel welcome and comfortable when he was nervous to go in on his first day. The rest of the week he was running into the building and barely saying goodbye. He came home talking about the adventures they went on in class and the stories they read or acted out. It's a really great camp, especially for younger kids when there aren't that many options in day camps.
