Class Experience

This process- oriented art class places an emphasis on exploration, creativity, and imagination. We'll dive into open- ended art experiences that will expand our understanding of what we can do with materials. We'll work 2-d and 3-d materials. We'll paint, collage, sprinkle, combine, attach, smoosh, smear, splat.. all the fun actions that can happen in our studio that will cultivate innovation, creative confidence, social/ emotional growth, and fun!

Notes

Location: SOUTH ORANGE: The studio is located at 165 Valley Street Unit B in South Orange. Street parking is available on Valley Street and a public parking garage is connected to the building on Third Street across from Sloan Street. Please be mindful that Valley Street is a very well traveled road and keep your child at arm's length as you approach the studio.
MONTCLAIR: Our Montclair studio is located at 237 Lorraine Avenue in Upper Montclair. Parking is available in the lot behind our storefront as well as the paid town lot across the street. Please enter through the front left hand door.

Attire: We do often get messy and colorful. Please dress for messiness.

Sample Class Format

Artists will be welcomed by a nurturing teacher into a studio space full of art and sensory activities designed specifically for them. After 25 minutes of open play and exploration, the teacher will gather the group for the lesson of the day. Each week's art exploration is an open ended lesson that will allow the artists to approach the materials at their individual levels. After the teacher's introduction, artists will spend about 20- 25 minutes together creating at the table with the option to return to open play if they complete the provocation.
After a process is complete, we often meet at the table at the end of class for an "art train." This is the early childhood version of an "art show" that we have tailored to keep our friends moving while reflecting on each other's work.

I love the combination of sensory activities and focused project. No matter how tired my kiddo is at the end of the week, they are happy to go to "art class" on Friday after school.
