Certify your language proficiency by taking a Goethe-Institut German exam.
The A1 Goethe-Zertifikat and test is meant for students who have completed two semesters of the A1 level (German 1a and German 1b) and feel comfortable with the following:
A1
Can understand and use familiar, everyday expressions and very simple sentences, which relate to the satisfying of concrete needs. Can introduce him/herself and others as well as ask others about themselves – e.g. where they live, who they know and what they own – and can respond to questions of this nature. Can communicate in a simple manner if the person they are speaking to speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to help.

This might be out of your hands, but I wish the test could have been spoken in person instead of on a CD. The digital voices were very difficult for a new language learner to understand.
