Class Requirements

What you'll learn

  • Creativity: Improv encourages children to think on their feet and come up with creative responses and scenarios in the moment. This fosters imaginative thinking and the ability to generate ideas quickly.
  • Quick Thinking: In improv, children have to respond rapidly to unexpected situations and prompts. This helps develop their ability to think and react quickly, which can be valuable in various real-life situations.
  • Problem-Solving: Improv often involves solving challenges or finding solutions within the context of a scene. Children learn to adapt, find resolutions, and think critically under pressure.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication is essential in improv. Children practice active listening, clear expression, and understanding nonverbal cues, which can enhance their overall communication abilities.
  • Verbal Fluency: Engaging in improv games and exercises requires children to articulate their thoughts spontaneously. This can lead to improved verbal fluency, vocabulary expansion, and linguistic creativity.
  • Empathy and Perspective-Taking: Many improv activities involve role-playing and taking on different characters or viewpoints. This nurtures empathy as children explore the world from various perspectives.
  • Social Skills: Improv is a collaborative activity that encourages interaction and cooperation with others. Children develop better teamwork, cooperation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Confidence: Improv empowers children to express themselves without fear of judgment. As they gain confidence in their abilities to think and perform on the spot, their overall self-esteem can improve.
  • Adaptability: The unpredictable nature of improv teaches children to adapt to changing circumstances and embrace uncertainty, enhancing their ability to navigate new and unfamiliar situations.
  • Memory Enhancement: Many improv games involve recalling details, patterns, or information quickly. This can help improve memory and cognitive recall.
  • Spatial Awareness and Body Language: Physical improv activities promote spatial awareness and the understanding of body language, contributing to better nonverbal communication skills.
  • Humor and Wit: Engaging in comedic improv exercises cultivates a sense of humor, wit, and the ability to find joy in playful interactions.
  • Risk-Taking: Improv encourages children to step outside their comfort zones and take creative risks. This willingness to explore new ideas can translate to other areas of life.
  • Focus and Concentration: To perform well in improv, children need to remain present and attentive to the scene. This enhances their focus, concentration, and mindfulness.
  • Emotional Regulation: In improv, children practice managing emotions in different scenarios, helping them develop emotional control and resilience.

Loved:

Heidi brings her real-world professional experience into the classroom, passionately working with each actor to deliver a grounded, true-to-life performance. She also insists that actors leave with recordings to help promote their careers, as she genuinely cares about each actor's success. I learned a lot in a short amount of time, and I highly recommend her class.

Loved:

I loved that you let parents learn with their kids. That you shared the videos. My daughter loved the class. She said it was fun and it got her more comfortable filming with other people in the room. Which is a huge plus in a world of Zoom Self-Tapes. My husband and I are both actors so we don't always pay for coaching because we just can't always swing it. My daughter loves doing film, so thank you for providing this space for her to learn with and meet professionals.
