SHSAT Ascent Course (spring/fall)
(for second semester 7th graders)
Bee Tutored's Ascent Course is ideal for the second semester 7th grader and rising 8th grader. Ascent is a “practice forward” course that places emphasis on iterative practice and vetted strategy as a means of achieving optimal SHSAT success. Course curriculum includes a unique combination of test-taking strategies such as time management, elimination techniques/answer traps, targeted practice with new exam-related topics, steps to breaking down challenging problems and techniques to reduce test anxiety. Embedded in this course is personalized, differentiated strategy building that optimizes performance for every Bee Tutored student.
The course includes: 15, 1.5 hour classes, 1 diagnostic, 2 mock exam+analysis, and comprehensive lessons + guided practice provided by Bee Tutored’s experienced SHSAT instructors.
Day/Time: Thursdays, 5:00PM - 6:30 PM

*June 5th and 19th are DOE holidays. Although school is not in session, we plan to run SHSAT class these days to ensure 15 class sessions.

Classes capped at 15 students. The scheduled mock exams will be proctored via zoom.

Taking a mock test is a great opportunity for practice. Thanks for organizing it. It was good to have it on a Sunday for parents to facilitate and for the students to take it after resting over the weekend.
Improvements:
The test instructions could be made clearer. It was not specified whether parents needed to print the test in advance, which caused some confusion. Additionally, the Scantron form was only emailed shortly before the exam, making last-minute printing stressful—this could have been shared earlier. At the end of the exam, the proctor mentioned that additional time would be given to submit answers online, but the Zoom call ended abruptly without a clear conclusion or closing remarks.

Improvements:
2 hours after the exam concluded I was informed that my child could have had extended test taking time. This is crucial information that should have been given BEFORE the exam.

The opportunity to practice this exam
Improvements:
Proctor should arrive at least 15 minutes early. Since the proctor arrived after most of the test takers, the beginning of the exam was disorganized and increased anxiety. Also during the exam, there was music playing in a nearby apartment that was distracting.
