Class Experience
Every week of film camp covers the basics of how to make a movie from start to finish, no experience is necessary! Kids will learn how to write their own scripts, storyboard, operate professional camcorders and DSLRs, act in front of a camera and edit using Final Cut Pro. Additionally, weekly themes keep activities exciting and allow returning students to sharpen their skills.
Weekly Breakdown:
- Monday - Ice breaker games, brainstorming movie ideas, script writing and location scouting.
- Tuesday - Table reads of scripts, camera lessons, casting, storyboarding, and pre-production.
- Wednesday - Break into small groups to film separate projects.
- Thursday - Finish filming and editing lessons with professional editing software.
- Friday - Finish edits and screening party.
Week of 7/7 - Summer Blockbuster
Calling all future Spielbergs! Start the summer off with a bang as we explore what goes into epic storytelling and grand adventure.
Week of 7/14 - Lighting and Film Noir
Students gain experience with studio light kits. Master three-point lightning and learn how to use dramatic shadows to create a scene worthy of Hitchcock!
Week of 7/21 - Advanced Camera Work
Take those camera skills to the next level with crane shots, rack focus and the trickiest of them all: the dolly zoom. Students get their hands on top notch cameras and state-of-the-art stabilizers.
Week of 7/28 - Special Effects
Transport yourself anywhere in the world with a green screen, add lasers and explosions! We'll even learn how to create our own effects using techniques from masters of their craft.
Week of 8/4 - Monster Movies
Lions, tigers and kaiju, oh my! Kids get inspired by classics such as King Kong and Godzilla before getting creative with their own creatures.
Week of 8/11 - Puppets on Film
In the great tradition of the Muppets, kids will create their own puppet characters to star alonside them in their movies!
Week of 8/18 - Advanced Editing
The perfect week for those who want to delve deep into the art of the edit, including special effects, key framing and color correction.
Notes
Please make sure students bring a lunch of their own, as well as a snack!

Loved:
My son enjoyed his 3rd great week at Take Two’s film camp. Each week he learns more about pitching his ideas, collaborating with other kids and teachers, and honing his technical film making skills. The students instructors do a great job encouraging the kids to think through their ideas, how to bring in them to life via video, and enhance with editing. The instructors are well matched to working with kids, using good humor along the way. The different themed weeks is also a plus!
Improvements:
Nothing! Great experience overall. I highly recommend Take Two for kids interested in exploring their creative talents through filmmaking.

Loved:
I was so impressed with this week-long camp. Most important: my son loved it. He also learned a lot about film, film history, and filmmaking, and helped write, film, act in, and edit a short film - which came out great and which he was very proud of. The instructor was great and seemed to have a really nice rapport with the kids.
Improvements:
Nothing.
