Class Experience

Join in the fun! Sing, dance and act in this wonderful introduction to the great works of “the Bard of Stratford-on-Avon”, William Shakespeare. Curated by Drama Notebook from their fantastic collection of plays for kids and teens and combined with Jill and Michael Gallina’s wonderful overview of Shakespeare’s plays including great songs introducing young actors to 2-part singing. Enhance your child’s knowledge, talent and self-confidence! This show-class is directed by Heidi Xethalis (who studied in London at the Royal Shakespeare Academy), choreographed by Gillian Eckert, musically directed by Crystal Theatre Artistic Director, Cheryl Kemeny and costumed by Alexandrea Kemeny.

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE—Please make sure you are available for the mandatory dress rehearsals and show dates before registering!

Notes

Please, no more than 2 absences in order to perform in the show. Students must attend the dress rehearsals to be in the shows.

Class Requirements

  • All students welcome! No prior experience needed.

What you'll learn

  • Students will learn proper singing technique and the basics of 2-part singing
  • Students will have an overview of Shakespeare's most famous plays.
  • Students will perform tha actual words of Shakespeare and develop their acting and vocal interpretation skills

Sample Class Format

  • 10 minutes vocalizing
  • 10 minutes acting excercising
  • The remainder of the class is spent staging, choreographing and learning music for the performance
  • There is a 5 minute snack break--students bring their own light snack

Other Things To Know

Homework

Students need to practice lines, songs and dance moves at home during the week. We will send links to the recorded music and choreography videos as the dances are created.

Full refund up to and after first class, half refund after second class, no refund after third class.


What To Bring

  • Students must bring jazz, ballet or character shoes to wear to practice in to each class. They will also perform using these shoes.
  • We provide all costumes except for dance shoes and tights (where applicable and depending on part)
  • Bring a light snack and water bottle
  • Bring a 1-inch, 3-ring binder to hold scripts and music that we will provide.

Loved how each kid got to have an opportunity to speak and play a character. It was great. So glad we did it!

Improvements:

It’s our first time doing this and this was one of the more expensive camps we signed up for. I didn’t realized we would also have to pay for tickets to see the play in addition to camp. I would suggest to roll in the cost of 4 tickets for each camper (and increase tuition) and then any additional tickets should be bought separately.
