Class Experience
In this class, your young developer will bring their coding to the next level by creating a “Code Your Own Adventure” program. Part game, part story, a code your own adventure program is inspired by the famous Choose Your Own Adventure book series in which the reader makes decisions that affect the steps and outcome of the story.
Each student will be challenged to design and develop an interactive adventure and plan the many routes their adventure may take. They will implement their user-driven adventure using Scratch. Building upon the coding skills covered in the “Animate My Story” Boolean Girl course, students will learn new skills such as conditionals, complex events, variables, and other advanced coding techniques. By the end, students will be one step closer to becoming a videogame designer!

Loved:
The girls were engaged and learned something.
Improvements:
I’d suggest showing them a finished version of the activity in the beginning, so they could see what they were making. I’d also suggest using a marker to add the instructor names to the board.
