Class Experience
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” Pablo Picasso.
Healthy self expression is vital to becoming a well balanced human being and art is part of our universal human experience. Being able to articulate yourself visually is your birthright as a human. Drawing is at the core of the visual arts and a fundamental tool to convey our ideas and feelings. It can be daunting, even frustrating, to begin this journey.
Drawing, however, is a learned skill that anyone can enjoy with some instruction and practice. This course is a true introduction to the fundamentals of drawing. Unlocking the foundations of drawing gives the artist the groundwork to draw from the imagination and become fluent in the visual arts.
Learning the cardinal tools such as value, line and proportion give the artist the language to unlock their creativity and create work that is meaningful. There is a misconception that artists are born with a gift that others are not. In reality all that is necessary to draw efficiently is a pencil and the willingness to learn the techniques. If you have been doodling in your notebook during math class, have taken some drawing classes before and want to hone your skills, or have a fear of drawing because you don’t feel like you got the “drawing gene” this class is for you!
Every artist is different and what is right for one may not work for another so we will explore different techniques and paths to help you find the right way to get your ideas to flow out of your pencil. You will learn exercises in creativity for those times that you want to draw but your mind seems to go blank. Together we will help you fine tune your strengths and take the fear out of your perceived weaknesses.

Hi Cindy, Thank you for your review. Mr. Tim is an avid ceramicist and an excellent three dimensional instructor. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching the students the steps necessary to sculpt a Colorado columbine and then enhanced it by painting a landscape to "plant" it in. Truly a mixed media gem. We'll see you soon for more no school art camps, including Summer! Best, Melinda
