Class Experience
Our camp takes place outdoors in Fort Greene Park and in our beautiful school at 462 Vanderbilt Avenue, where our caring, experienced teachers create a joyful, immersive French environment.
Our lively weekly sessions engage children in French through play, art, music, storytelling, and hands-on science. Whether your child is new to the language or already speaks fluently, we tailor activities for every skill level.
Our main goal is to spark joy, creativity, and language development through fresh experiences and exploration. Each session is guided by our bilingual teaching team, who bring years of experience working with students at all levels of French comprehension.
We operate on a weekly schedule, introducing a different theme and brand-new activities each time. You’re free to sign up for just one week, several weeks, or all six—whatever fits your family’s summer plans!
Who Can Attend:
- Children ages 3 to 7 (with prior school experience), regardless of French proficiency.
- Children ages 1–2, already enrolled at LLS, will have their own adapted program primarily based on-site, with daily visits to nearby parks.
Schedule & Dates:
9:30 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday with optional extended day from 2:30-4:00pm if we have enough demand.
Why Choose French Nature Camp?
Outdoor Exploration & Hands-On Learning: Children climb trees, explore uneven terrain, and observe the sky, clouds, and wind—all while immersed in French.
Play-Based Engagement: Teachers encourage children’s natural curiosity through games, activities, and guided questioning, building resilience and creativity.
Thematic Weeks: Each week highlights a different theme, helping children develop a deep respect and love for their environment.
Week 1: Habiter mon corps, habiter le monde
Focus: Becoming aware of scales and understanding what connects everything that inhabits the Earth. The goal is, above all, to lay the foundations for the pedagogy of listening and care.
Activities: Create self portraits to learn about ourselves and the members of the group. Taking thoughtful sensory walks to listen to sounds, observe colors and shapes, feeling textures, and smelling the environment.

Improvements:
Hoping next year that the camp can go till at least 5pm, with the afternoons spent at the new indoor location. 2.30pm is too short of a day. We won't be able to do it next year if it still ends at 2.30pm.

It's outdoors when weather permits. My child picked up a lot of new french as there are many francophone children and great instructors.

Extending the day by 30 minutes (to 3pm) or perhaps even later.

About The Language and Laughter Studio
LLS is a French language center and French immersion pre-school located in the heart of downtown Brooklyn, New York. Since 2006 we have been leaders in progressive language education centered in arts integration, imagination, child-driven projects, and play-based learning. The Language and Laughter Studio is a place not only for our children to participate and enjoy language and culture, but a place for us to come together as a community and bring to life the heritage of our extended cultures. Learning language is not just about speaking, but about connecting to the cultures and traditions they come from.
