Chess Basics Camp (Ages 5–7)
Learn the fundamentals of chess in a fun and interactive way!
Perfect for beginners, this track introduces young learners to the essentials of chess, including piece movement, board setup, basic rules, and how to play a complete game. Campers will build a solid foundation through engaging lessons, puzzles, and guided games, boosting their confidence and critical thinking skills.

Chess Tactics Camp (Ages 5–7)Sharpen your chess skills with tactical mastery!
For campers with basic knowledge of chess, this track focuses on tactics and strategies to improve gameplay. Topics include identifying threats, planning attacks, and solving tactical puzzles like forks, pins, and discovered attacks. Campers will practice these skills in competitive games and fun challenges, enhancing their decision-making and foresight.
Sample Class Format
- Camp Hours
Standard Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Extended Day Option:
Drop-off as early as 7:30 AM
Pick-up until 5:30 PM
Constructive activities during extended hours include chess puzzles, board games, and free play in the Discovery Zones.
Daily Schedule (Both Tracks)
- 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM: Morning Chess Warm-Up (interactive games and trivia)
- 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM: Chess Lesson
Basics Track: Learn piece movement, rules, and gameplay essentials.
Tactics Track: Explore advanced tactics like forks, pins, skewers, and discovered attacks.
- 10:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Snack Break & Chess Stories
- 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Chess Practice and Challenges
Solve puzzles based on the day’s lesson.
Play guided practice games or complete tactical challenges.
- 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM: Lunch Break
- 12:30 PM – 1:15 PM: Chess Crafts and Projects
Basics Track: Create personalized chess boards or decorate chess pieces.
Tactics Track: Design strategy cards or create a tactical puzzle book.
- 1:15 PM – 2:15 PM: Special Weekly Activity
Monday: Pop Jet Splash Pad and Gaga Ball
Tuesday: Movie Day at Cinebistro Summer Film Fest
Wednesday: Pop Jet Splash Pad and Outdoor Play
Thursday: Outdoor Games and Challenges with the Outdoor Game Bag
- Friday: Outdoor Games and Chess Tournament Celebration
- 2:15 PM – 3:15 PM: Wrap-Up & Review (reflect on games and progress)
- 3:15 PM – 3:30 PM: Pick-Up for Standard Hours
Extended Day Activities (3:30 PM – 5:30 PM)
During extended hours, campers will engage in constructive activities like:
Chess puzzles and challenges
Board games and strategy activities
Quiet reflection or reading space

Two Tracks: Choose between Chess Basics for beginners or Chess Tactics for those ready to sharpen their skills.

Weekly Highlights:
- Tuesday Movie Days: Enjoy a fun film at Cinebistro Summer Film Fest.
- Monday & Wednesday Splash Pad: Cool off and play at the Stony Point Pop Jet area.
- Thursday & Friday Outdoor Games: Gaga Ball and engaging outdoor challenges.
- Camp T-Shirt: Each camper receives a custom camp t-shirt to commemorate their learning journey.
