Class Experience
Launch into a week of explosive fun with catapults, cannons, and chemistry! Campers will learn the principles of physics and chemistry through hands-on experiments and engineering challenges. From building catapults and air cannons to creating safe chemical reactions, this camp inspires curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity. The week concludes with a spectacular "Launch and Reactions" showcase, where campers demonstrate their projects and newfound knowledge.
Notes
Although this is a full week of camp, there will be modified hours in observance of the federal holiday, Juneteenth (June 19th) and 20th. We will also not have early drop off or extended day hours on June 19th and 20th.
Sample Class Format
- Camp Hours
Standard Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Extended Day Option:
Drop-off as early as 7:30 AM
Pick-up until 5:30 PM
Activities During Extended Hours: Discovery Zones free play (LEGO Wall, Lite Brite Wall, RC Tonka Pit), library exploration, and fidget center activities.
- 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM: Science & Engineering Briefing
Fun trivia, riddles, and warm-up activities to introduce the day’s physics or chemistry concepts.
- 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM: Exploration Hour
- Monday: The Science of Launch – Discover the principles of force, energy, and trajectory.
- Tuesday: Chemistry Basics – Learn about safe reactions and chemical changes.
- Wednesday: Engineering Catapults – Explore mechanics and leverage.
- Thursday: Air Cannons and Pressure – Experiment with air pressure and propulsion.
- Friday: Camper Choice – Revisit favorite projects or prepare for the final showcase.
- 10:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Snack Break & Reflections
- Share discoveries and discuss the morning’s experiments.
- 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Hands-On STEAM Challenges
- Monday: Build and test mini catapults for distance and accuracy.
- Tuesday: Conduct safe chemical reactions to create colorful, fizzy experiments.
- Wednesday: Engineer catapults with adjustable angles and weights.
- Thursday: Create and test air cannons to hit targets.
- Friday: Final Showcase – Campers demonstrate their projects and participate in a friendly launch competition.
- 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM: Lunch Break
- 12:30 PM – 1:15 PM: Discovery Hour

Recap the day’s lessons, celebrate successes, and discuss upcoming activities.
- 3:15 PM – 3:30 PM: Pick-Up for Standard Hours
Extended Day Activities (3:30 PM – 5:30 PM)
