Class Experience
Dive into the fascinating evolution of technology! Explore the history of gadgets and learn how modern technologies like Wi-Fi, AI, and GPS work and shape our everyday lives. Campers will compare old and new tech, discovering how innovation has transformed the world. Campers will choose a project track—Music, TV, Video Games, or Navigation—to create hands-on projects that highlight the differences between old and modern technology.
Sample Class Format
- Camp Hours
Standard Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Extended Day Option:
Drop-off as early as 7:30 AM
Pick-up until 5:30 PM
Activities During Extended Hours: Discovery Zones free play (LEGO Wall, Lite Brite Wall, RC Tonka Pit), library exploration, and fidget center activities.
- 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM: Tech Briefing
- Fun trivia, riddles, and warm-up discussions introducing the day’s theme.
- 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM: Exploration Hour
- Monday: Retro Gadgets – Use and explore typewriters, rotary phones, and cassette players.
- Tuesday: Modern Innovations – Learn about Wi-Fi, GPS, and their applications in everyday life.
- Wednesday: Entertainment Tech – Compare old and modern music players, TVs, and gaming consoles.
- Thursday: Smart Tech & AI – Discover how AI and smart devices improve our lives today.
- Friday: Camper Choice – Focus on favorite activities or refine final projects for the showcase.
- 10:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Snack Break & Reflections
Share thoughts on how old and new technologies compare.
- 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Hands-On STEAM Challenges
- Monday: Create a personalized tech timeline using retro gadgets.
- Tuesday: Build and test a simple retro-inspired gadget.
- Wednesday: Play and analyze old and modern video games.
- Thursday: Design a futuristic gadget blending old and modern tech ideas.
- Friday: Final Showcase – Present projects from chosen tracks and celebrate achievements.
- 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM: Lunch Break
- 12:30 PM – 1:15 PM: Discovery Hour

Recap the day’s lessons, reflect on progress, and prepare for the next day.
- 3:15 PM – 3:30 PM: Pick-Up for Standard Hours
Project Tracks:
Campers will choose one of the following tracks to focus on for the week:
- Music: Compare record players and streaming devices.
- TV: Explore black-and-white TVs to today’s smart TVs and streaming.
- Video Games: Play retro games and modern titles to see how gaming evolved.
- Navigation: Learn how maps and compasses led to modern GPS systems.
- Special Features:
- STEAM Learning: Hands-on challenges with retro and modern tech.
- Field Trips: Movie day at Cinebistro featuring a tech-themed film.
- Discovery Zones: Free play with retro gadgets and STEM tools.
- Take-Home Project: Campers will create and bring home a tech-inspired gadget.
- Camp T-Shirt: Commemorative Old Tech vs. New Tech t-shirt.
