Class Experience
Could you survive? Learn to think strategically and solve problems like the characters in I Survived!
In this immersive camp, young adventurers will dive into the I Survived graphic novel series, exploring survival scenarios and learning to problem-solve and strategize their way through challenges. Campers will read, discuss, and act out scenarios from the books while tackling hands-on activities that bring the stories to life. At the end of camp, each camper will take home their own graphic novel box set (Books 1–4) and a wealth of new skills. Each camper also receives a custom camp t-shirt to commemorate their adventure-filled week.
Sample Class Format
Camp Hours
Standard Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Extended Day Option:
Drop-off as early as 7:30 AM
Pick-up until 5:30 PM
Constructive activities during extended hours include puzzles, creative crafting, and free play in the Discovery Zones.
One-Week Daily Schedule
- 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM: Morning Survival Challenge Briefing (fun trivia, riddles, and warm-up activities related to the day’s story)
- 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM: Reading & Discussion
- Monday: I Survived the Sinking of the Titanic, 1912 – Explore teamwork and quick decision-making.
- Tuesday: I Survived the Shark Attacks of 1916 – Learn about facing fears and managing resources.
- Wednesday: I Survived the San Francisco Earthquake, 1906 – Discover how to prepare for and respond to earthquakes.
- Thursday: I Survived the Joplin Tornado, 2011 – Focus on understanding and simulating tornadoes.
- Friday: Camper Choice: Reread a favorite or discuss the whole series!
- 10:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Snack Break & Storytime Reflections
- 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Survival Challenge Activity
- Monday: Build a model lifeboat and test its buoyancy.
- Tuesday: Design and test shark-proof barriers or flotation devices.
- Wednesday: Create a model structure designed to survive an earthquake; test it on a simulated shaking platform.
- Thursday: Conduct a tornado STEAM project by creating a tornado-in-a-bottle simulation and exploring how wind patterns affect structures.
- Friday: Collaborative Challenge: Survive a simulated disaster scenario combining lessons from the week!
- 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM: Lunch Break
- 12:30 PM – 1:15 PM: Strategy & Problem-Solving Hour
Solve puzzles or create strategies to “survive” unique challenges inspired by the books.
- 1:15 PM – 2:15 PM: Special Weekly Activity
Monday: Pop Jet Splash Pad and Gaga Ball
Tuesday: Movie Day at Cinebistro Summer Film Fest
Wednesday: Pop Jet Splash Pad and Outdoor Play
Thursday: Outdoor Games and Challenges with the Outdoor Game Bag
Friday: Outdoor Games and Survival Showcase Celebration
- 2:15 PM – 3:15 PM: Wrap-Up & Reflection (review lessons learned and celebrate successes)
- 3:15 PM – 3:30 PM: Pick-Up for Standard Hours
Extended Day Activities (3:30 PM – 5:30 PM)
During extended hours, campers will engage in constructive activities like:
Quiet reading time with their I Survived graphic novels
Strategy games and puzzles inspired by survival themes
Creative art or crafting projects related to the books
Special Features
- Hands-On Learning: Actively engage with survival strategies and problem-solving inspired by the I Survived series.
- Earthquake and Tornado Challenges: Learn about natural disasters and test creative solutions with STEAM projects.
- Reading Time: Campers will have dedicated time to read and enjoy their graphic novels.
- Take-Home Box Set: Each camper receives their own I Survived graphic novel box set (Books 1–4).
Weekly Highlights:
Tuesday Movie Day: Enjoy a fun film at Cinebistro Summer Film Fest.
Monday & Wednesday Splash Pad: Cool off and play at the Stony Point Pop Jet area.
Friday Showcase: Celebrate achievements with a Survival Challenge Showcase.
Camp T-Shirt: Each camper receives a custom camp t-shirt to commemorate their week of adventure.
