Camp Overview
Get ready to step into a dystopian world where survival depends on your wits, creativity, and teamwork! The Dystopian Novel Challenge invites campers to imagine themselves in a post-apocalyptic setting, solve unique challenges, and collaborate to create their own dystopian story. The week culminates in a thrilling field trip to the Gnome and Raven Escape Room, where your survival skills will be put to the ultimate test.
Key Activities-
Dystopian World Building: Imagine and design your own dystopian society. Decide what went wrong and how your characters will survive. -
Survival Challenges: Learn basic survival skills, such as crafting shelter models, creating escape plans, and solving resource puzzles. -
Creative Storytelling: Write and illustrate your team’s dystopian journey, complete with maps, characters, and a gripping plot. -
Escape Room Field Trip: Work together to solve puzzles and escape the Gnome and Raven’s post-apocalyptic scenario.
Sample Class Format
- 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM: Dystopian Warm-Up
Start the day with a creative brainstorming session or fun dystopian-themed riddles to set the tone.
- 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM: World Building & Survival Skills
Monday: Build the foundation of your dystopian world—what went wrong and what happens next?
Tuesday: Learn how to design shelters and escape routes.
Wednesday: Practice solving resource puzzles and crafting basic survival tools.
Thursday: Fine-tune your world’s story and create its map.
Friday: Prepare for your escape room adventure with strategy sessions and team bonding.
- 10:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Snack & Social Break
- 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Creative Challenges
Monday: Create characters and backstories for your dystopian society.
Tuesday: Work on a group map or diagram of your world.
Wednesday: Start crafting the climax of your dystopian tale.
Thursday: Create props or illustrations to enhance your story presentation.
Friday: Escape room time! Test your survival skills at the Gnome and Raven Escape Room.
- 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM: Lunch Break
- 12:30 PM – 1:15 PM: Discovery Zone Exploration
Take a break to recharge in creative zones like:
3D Puzzles for strategy practice.
Pendulum Drip Canvas Art to relax with creativity.
Retro Games Redux for a dystopian-themed arcade experience.
- 1:15 PM – 2:15 PM: Storytelling Workshop
Refine your dystopian story as a group. Write dialogue, develop plot twists, and add dramatic illustrations to your tale.
- 2:15 PM – 3:15 PM: Showcase Prep & Strategy Session
Prepare to present your dystopian world and story to the camp. If it’s escape room day, this time is used to strategize and plan your team’s approach.
- 3:15 PM – 3:30 PM: Reflection & Wrap-Up
Celebrate your daily progress and share highlights with the group—or just sit back and enjoy your dystopian success.
