Get Inky with Letterpress Printing!
A Hands-On Workshop with Frank Baseman of Base Press
Join us for a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the art of letterpress printing—a centuries-old relief printing process that combines craftsmanship, creativity, and history. This workshop invites you to roll up your sleeves and "get inky" using vintage wood and metal type along with an authentic letterpress setup.
Led by the talented Frank Baseman of Base Press (based in suburban Philadelphia), you’ll explore the fundamentals of letterpress, learn how to arrange and lock up type, ink it up, and print your own designs.
-
Hands-on Experience: Learn the basics of letterpress printing, from setting type to pulling prints. -
Authentic Materials: Work with vintage type and wood blocks, some of which are decades old, for a truly tactile experience. -
Create and Exchange Prints: Each participant will design and print their own set of custom prints (9x9" and 9x12") and have the option to exchange with others—a fun way to build a small collection of collaborative artwork! -
No Experience Needed: This workshop is beginner-friendly and perfect for anyone interested in printmaking, design, or the magic of analog techniques.
Frank Baseman is an award-winning designer, printmaker, and educator who brings a passion for the art of letterpress to every workshop. As the founder of Base Press, he has worked with countless students to revive and celebrate this traditional craft in contemporary ways.
Whether you’re a seasoned artist, a design enthusiast, or just curious about how things were printed before the digital age, this workshop will leave you inspired—and a little inky!
