Class Experience
We are all for family learning! Parents / other caregivers learn together with their babies through games, songs, nursery rhymes, rhythm, and movement! This is a class led by sociolinguist and childhood bilingualism specialist Kaila Diaz. The benefits of this class are twofold: you'll increase your Spanish "toolkit" to help make Spanish a natural part of you & your baby's routine together AND you will learn about bilingual parenting topics as well as bilingual language development.
Did you know that your baby's brain is at its optimal point for linguistic development? Raising them bilingually from early on can increase their language processing abilities, cognitive function, and even social skills. What is mind blowing about babies and language is that in the early stages of their language development, they are able to acquire sounds of the world’s 6,500+ languages like a native would, when exposed to the language consistently.
Our Conmigo class’s format is such that the parent and baby/toddler are interacting with one another, while the parent is led and informed by the teacher on the screen. Meaning, the instructor leads the parent in how to engage with the child in Spanish through games, music, and language input, and the parent then transfers this to the child. No need to worry about them "paying attention" in class, you'll be their main source on instruction!
In class, we'll also talk with caregivers about typical bilingual language development and advise families on how to keep the language learning going all week long. Class time is not just for the parents though; we do often directly engage with the children, singing their name, commenting on the toys they may show to the camera, on their awesome dance moves, on their likes/dislikes etc.
Being a mixed-age class, we focus on providing plenty of language learning opportunities through singing, dancing, and playing together that will work well no matter what developmental stage your baby is in.
Set your child up for future bilingualism by starting them early and being part of the learning process with this fun-filled immersion class!
(This class will be a mix of Spanish immersion and some clarification/explanation done in English from time to time. The songs and activities will all be in full Spanish immersion. Parents who don’t know Spanish are welcome, as they will learn through immersion too!)

Loved:
Love the idea of a skill based Spanish class- much more engaging than a typical Spanish class
Improvements:
Still unclear what time it ends, never seems to end on time which is hard for bedtime Speaking/reminding to the kids that it doesn’t have to be perfect, my 5 yr old gets discouraged by not making a perfect picture :/. Other drawing channels sometimes have good slogans like “the most important thing is to have fun and practice - it doesn’t have to look like the teacher”

Loved:
This class is fun and engaging. Kaila is kind, attentive, and keeps my 5 year old's attention. I love that it's mostly in Spanish but that she offers support to meet all students where they are at, and that my son is getting to do one of his favorite hobbies in Spanish! He looks forward to it every time!
Improvements:
Nothing- we love the class!!
