Class Experience
This drop off class is all about the process of making! Litte artists (3- 5 year olds) will explore a plethora of terrific materials. Printing, drawing, painting, sculpting, cutting and gluing- all these materials and processes fold into our curriculum over the course of a season. Through open- ended art explorations, children will find joy in the artistic process and learn that their physical actions have visual consequences. This class involves both open play and project work, giving young children lots of sensory choice and social/ emotional exploration during our hour together.

Classes are 1 hour. We spend the first 25 minutes in open play, and then will sit down for our project work. We often have an "art show" at the end of class when a project is completed.
Teachers are subject to change as we approach the start of the season.
Location: SOUTH ORANGE: The studio is located at 165 Valley Street Unit B in South Orange. Street parking is available on Valley Street and a public parking garage is connected to the building on Third Street across from Sloan Street. Please be mindful that Valley Street is a very well traveled road and keep your child at arm's length as you approach the studio. MONTCLAIR: Our Montclair studio is located at 237 Lorraine Avenue in Upper Montclair. Parking is available in the lot behind our storefront as well as the paid town lot across the street. Please enter through the front left hand door.
Attire: We do often get messy and colorful and materials can stain. Please dress for messiness.

Sample Class Format
- Artists will be welcomed by a nurturing teacher into a studio space full of art and sensory activities designed specifically for them. After 25 minutes of open play and exploration, the teacher will gather the group for the lesson of the day. Each week's art exploration is an open ended lesson that will allow the artists to approach the materials at their individual levels. After the teacher's introduction, artists will spend about 20- 25 minutes together creating at the table with the option to return to open play if they complete the provocation.
- After a process is complete, we often meet at the table at the end of class for an "art train." This is the early childhood version of an "art show" that we have tailored to keep our friends moving while reflecting on each other's work.

We had been looking for an art class for my child and nowhere seemed to be just right. Oh! canary is the right amount of everything, small class, creative, safe and comfortable space and not corporate feeling like some of the others. We love it and are so glad we found it.
