Class Experience
šJoin award-winning author Saundra Mitchell to read a new tween/lower teen LGBTQIA+ book each month in a social, inclusive space.š
āAs a professional author, I love talking about books with students-- and I especially love urging them to dig deep and think about books beyond a simple "I liked it" or "I didn't like it". This class seeks to engage students in meaningful discussion about books while also touching on literary devices like symbolism, foreshadowing, tone, and voice. This class is open to all, and is a kind, supportive place to read and discuss LGBTQIA+ titles, authors, and stories.
āStudents may join the class at any point during the month-- the teacher will send new students a message to let them know where to read up to! That said, if students are a little behind on the reading, don't sweat it-- there will be no shaming, we promise. Our goal is a fun, chatty, supportive, and affirming bookish space!

While reading ahead isn't "against the rules", please encourage your student not to get too far ahead, lest they risk accidentally revealing spoilers to the other readers.
āPlease note that students must independently purchase or borrow the month's selected book-- copies are not provided, and are not available for free download anywhere online. These books can be purchased anywhere books are sold.
