Class Experience
Intentions:
1) To help students explore the relationship between surface and form and find the right surface for their work.
- We'll think through the idea behind the work as soon as you start. Beginning with questions like “what is this object and what surface enhances and supports my intention for it?” The alternative to the habit of make, bisque, glaze. We'll break out of the fear that surrounds finishing our work.
2) To understand the critical role of testing to understand how materials behave.
- We will explore integrating testing into a studio practice, including styles of “test tiles”, safety pratices, and interpreting results.
3) We will explore several types of surfaces including bare clay, washes and stains, surface activators, underglaze, and glaze. We’ll focus on the effect each of these have on the finished work and its meaning.
4) Emphasis will be on cone 6 electric kiln firings.
