Loved:

The lessons are very detailed. The instructor has a kind personality and is very knowledgable. There are 10 minute breaks between the two hours which is helpful for engagement/active focus during the remaining time. I've taken 4 levels so far within SLC and there are beginning to be familiar faces in class; very fun. The course work is current to what's happening now within deaf culture v dated signs/cultural norms etc.

Improvements:

During Level 5, we are learning about ASL Interpreters. I'm not sure if its because I work within the deaf community that I'm more aware of the ASL Interpreting process than other people, but I think it could be - at least somewhat assumed - that people who are in Level 5 do know certain aspects of deaf culture such as why/how ASL Interpretation is used and provided. Its still great to know, just something to consider when building out the Culture portion of Levels 5 & 6 & onward.

Response from Sign Language Center

Appreciate your feedback and will share this with the curriculum team. We are starting to offer a touch of ASL interpretation classes for those who finish Level 6 or higher. We want to expand on that.

Loved:

We were able to practice fingerspelling and reception skills. I found that new and helpful. I also learned reference points when describing the position of people or items in a picture/space.

Improvements:

Including a FLIP.com space where we can react and sign what we learned and the application of it, and we can see what our teammates learned as well.
