Class Experience
This is a 6-week course, ONGOING. A & B are natural advancements in fluency, and depending on your readiness, a student will move up a level. Conversational classes use a “natural” conversation mode to increase fluency. Heavy concentration will be placed on telling clear, coherent, interesting, and culturally appropriate stories.
Conversation A: For those who finished level six will begin a more unstructured curriculum. Join this level to start feeling comfortable signing socially and chatting about various topics while being guided on expressive & receptive skills. ***Needs approval by your instructor to move up to B.
Conversation B: This class is a more advanced version of level A. This class is for signers who already have a grasp on the language and want to gain more confidence with fluency, socialize more with native Deaf signers, and work on specific skills.

How To Participate
Attend class via Zoom video
This class will be hosted on Zoom video conferencing platform. You will receive an email 30 minutes before class starts with a link to the class and access instructions. We recommend you make sure your device is up to date and meets all system requirements before class.

I love the content of the class: So many weird and provocative questions for discussion, Deaf history, and handshape stories! The only thing I love more is the instruction: David is THE BEST!!! He brings SO much energy and positivity and expertise and his attention to all of us is extraordinary.
Improvements:
I really can't think of anything. The class content is wonderful, the instruction is wonderful, and all of the communication around the class (when it meets, the Zoom link, the recordings, etc.) is clear and consistent.

The instructor is SO enthusiastic and engaged and such a beautiful native signer; he pulls everyone into the conversation and teaches us so much both by example and through explanation. I learn so much AND it is so fun!!!
Improvements:
Teleportation! I wish I could take in-person classes at SLC, but the online classes are still wonderful!!!

David always brings the most intense and wonderful energy to the class! He is so kind and welcoming and informative. Also watching him sign is so magical; I feel like I learned so much from just absorbing what he was doing as a language model. I know I also learned a lot from my own participation and from engaging with my classmates. Wonderful class experience!!
Improvements:
Highlighting whoever is communicating in Zoom is actually quite visually complicated because while that one person is huge on the screen, it means the instructor and everyone else becomes tiny. The gallery view is a much simpler and clearer view for class conversations.
