Class Experience
German I for Kids is for young learners who are new to learning German. Students work to improve their beginning listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in German.
Notes
You must purchase either the digital version OR the paperback version of the textbooks (see details below). These are used during class and for homework for "German 1 for kids" and "German 2 for kids"

Class Requirements
- No prequisite German knowledge required
- Basic reading and writing knowledge in first langague required
What you'll learn
- Students practice their communication skills (written and spoken) on topics such as sports, hobbies, everyday objects, numbers to 20, countries, time, school, days of the week, colors, and animals.
- Goethe Langauge Exam: These classes are designed to help students prepare for the Goethe Language Exams, accepted internationally as proof of German language ability. Students are ideally prepared to take the "Fit A1" exam after 4 semesters of study (German 1, German 2, and two semesters of German 3). GTHS offers Goethe testing throughout the year at its downtown Austin location. Read more about the Goethe Institute and their language exams here: https://www.goethe.de/en/index.html
Sample Class Format
- German 1, 2 and 3 are formal classes that follow an immersion-based, highly interactive course book– Paul, Lisa & Co. A1 – and lessons are supplemented by correlating independent activities in a workbook.
- Students cover chapter 1 - 5 in Paul, Lisa & Co A1.1 books in German 1
Other Things To Know

Students should expect to spend 1.5 hours per week outside of class time to keep pace with the material covered. Students who are not able to practice sufficiently may be asked to repeat the class.

- Prior to first class – 90% refund of the tuition amount
- Prior to the second class – 70% refund
- Prior to the third class – 50% refund
- No refund is available after the third class

About German Free School
We offer German classes for all ages, including adult classes and formal classes for homeschool, private school, and other younger learners. We also serve as a Goethe Institute testing center, and our curriculum aligns with the Goethe Institut and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; classes prepare interested students for the Goethe German language proficiency exams, recognized globally as proof of German-language ability.
