Join us for FIVE Saturdays crafted as an engaging "cultural experience" for kids eager to extend their Saturday camp adventure or for those looking to sample one of our classes before signing up for summer camps.
What is Shadow Puppetry (皮影戏, Píyǐngxì)?
Shadow puppetry is an ancient Chinese performance art where puppeteers manipulate colorful shadow figures behind a lit screen. These performances have been used for centuries to tell folk tales, myths, and historical stories in China.
As 2025 marks the Year of the Snake (蛇年, Shé nián) in the Chinese zodiac, this program incorporates traditional shadow puppetry and storytelling while exploring the significance of the snake in Chinese culture.
Through this hands-on workshop, children will:
✅ Explore the tradition of shadow puppetry while learning Mandarin vocabulary.
✅ Discover the significance of the Year of the Snake in Chinese folklore.
✅ Develop creativity and fine motor skills by designing and crafting their own shadow puppets.
✅ Gain confidence in storytelling through interactive play, movement, and performances.
✅ Engage in kinesthetic learning with games, music, and drama-based activities.
✅ Perform a shadow puppet show, blending art, culture, and language.
🎭 Day 1: The Magic of Shadow Puppetry! - Theme: What is shadow puppetry? How does light and shadow work?
🐍 Day 2: The Year of the Snake Story - Theme: What does the Year of the Snake mean?
🎨 Day 3: Colors & Emotions in Shadow Puppetry! - Theme: How do colors and facial expressions tell a story?
📖 Day 4: Let’s Tell a Story! - Theme: How do we create a simple shadow play?
🎭 Day 5: The Big Puppet Show! - 🎉 Performance Day!
Notes
🍃 The camp runs for half a day, featuring a thirty-minute break!
🍃 Kindly ensure to pack sufficient food for the break, as SNACK is not included.
🍃 Kids experience the perfect blend of Mandarin and English during the entire camp!
🍃 Kids grades K-5 are invited to join us, regardless of their level of Mandarin!
🍃 Every Saturday, your student will join peers of similar age and skill level to learn in a dynamic learning environment. They will explore the intricacies of cultural experiences through a comprehensive approach that includes speaking, listening, reading, and writing. This will be achieved through fun and competitive activities, all infused with rich cultural elements.

Great way to immerse a child into Spanish. Even without much of a background in Spanish my child enjoyed attending and learned a lot while she was there.

I sent a very hesitant 7 year old to Spanish Camp and I was very impressed with how Senora Jackie and her team handled him. He does not like to try new things and can be very challenging at times but they were patient and found games and activities that he enjoyed. He stayed the whole time and even went back the next day! Thank you SO much for sticking with him.
