Class Experience
Absolute Beginner to Guitar: Basics and Fundamentals will teach you how to play guitar with proper right and left hand techniques as well as proper posture. Through playing rock style songs, ABG course starts out teaching you how to play open chords along with different strumming and picking patterns. You will learn to play songs and read tab notation by popular artists such as The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, Coldplay, Adele, Red Hot Chili Peppers and more. You will also learn the basics on how to play lead guitar by learning popular melodies (licks) within these songs. At the end of the 8 week course you will be able to strum chords, pick melodies and of course play full songs comfortably with practice. There is no prerequisite for the ABG course. The ABG course is for students picking up the guitar for the first time. At the end of each class, students are offered to film their instructor playing what was taught at a slow tempo for home practice reference. We also offer beginner, intermediate and advanced courses for students who want to continue or join up already knowing the basics or more. Classes continue with the same learning method. You will learn more advanced picking and strumming patterns as well as power chords, barre chords and scales.
Students are given a score for every song taught in class. At the end of each class students are offered to film their instructor playing what was taught in class at a slow tempo and at goal tempo for home practice reference.
New York Guitar Academy provides Guitars (Electric and Acoustic) for all students to use during all of their active classes. For home practice, we have an on-site in-studio guitar store that specializes in renting and selling quality instruments.
Students will have the opportunity to perform at our biannual student show.

How To Participate
Attend class via Zoom video
This class will be hosted on Zoom video conferencing platform. You will receive an email 30 minutes before class starts with a link to the class and access instructions. We recommend you make sure your device is up to date and meets all system requirements before class.

Flexibility to sign up for blocks of lessons or ad hoc sessions, I.e. no annual or ongoing commitment. I appreciate this is not ideal for the school/instructor but it allows me to learn at my pace - otherwise I wouldn’t sign up at all! Thanks you… I’m impressed at how well the group class is instructed online. The instructor doesn’t seem to miss much!

New York Guitar Academy's guitar program offers small group classes and private lessons in a wide range of styles for the acoustic, classical and electric guitar. We offer classes for kids, teens and adults. We introduce students to all different styles of music, allowing them to get a well-rounded sense of the many ways to play the guitar. Students are given opportunities to perform, build repertoire and become a confident guitarist.
