Class Experience
Creative coding club for girls in grade 7. Grade 6 who have completed Level 1 and Grade 8 students with no prior coding experience are also welcome. This is a social and creative weekly computer programming club for girls! Using Code/Art’s art-infused curriculum, club members will learn to code animated art, games, mobile apps, websites, and artificial intelligence, and create 3D models! Level 2 includes projects using JavaScript and Python coding languages. Clubs meet weekly over 8 months, with occasional weeks off for holidays, school vacations, etc. (review calendar for exact days).
Prerequistes: Code/Art Level 1 or similar coding experience (or grade 8 with no experience). Instructors may provide guidance, if applicable, on whether the level is right for the student based on past coding experience.Click here for SYLLABUS.
What you will learn: Computer programming in multiple computer languages: Scratch, JavaScript (processing.js), mobile apps, websites, and Python; 3D; Career Spotlights; Artificial Intelligence
Spring Showcase: The club holds a graduation + showcase event in May. Parents are invited, students demo their group and/or individual projects, and each girl receives a certificate for the coding level completed.
Notes
Materials needed to participate: Any desktop computer or laptop (including Apple MAC, Chromebook and Surface Pro laptops) are good. While most tablet devices will also work, we advise against using them due to their limitations. You will also need wifi connection.
Software needed: we use free online platforms such as Khan Academy, MIT Scratch, Trinket and Tinkercad for our lessons (no software downloads required). Instructions on creating these accounts will be provided.

In order to cancel you must email info@code-art.com 2 weeks prior to billing date (15th of the month) in order to not get charged for a new month.
How To Participate
You will receive an email 30 minutes before class starts with a link to the class and access instructions.

Code/Art is a non-profit whose mission is to increase the number of girls studying computer science by delighting and inspiring them with the creative possibilities of computer programming. We strive to put young women, particularly young women from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, on track for future tech careers by providing welcoming early coding programs that focus on art, creativity and social good.
