GrupoWILD Northern VA | Spanish Nature Playgroup

GrupoWILD by Bilingüitos is a nature-based Spanish playgroup that hosts regular playdates for Spanish-speaking / bilingual families* in different spots around Loudoun County. We use these playdates to foster a love for nature and as a way to show our children Spanish in a wider context; outside the home and outside the classroom.

Nuestros niños podrán ver que el español no solo es una lengua "de mami y papi," o algo que aprenden en la escuela, sino un hermoso idioma que se usa en muchas comunidades, incluso por otros niños bilingües!

It’s much like GrupoPLAY (see separate listing) in that it’s unstructured free play, but in this group our focus is nature play. Children will do things like collect leaves, rocks, etc., make pretend “soups” using nature items, look for critters under rocks, play imagination games etc. Think of it like a mix of GrupoPLAY, Wild & Free, and Tinkergarten. But keep in mind that this is a cooperative playgroup, there is no dedicated leader or teacher, as there are no dedicated lessons or teachings. 

Adults are expected to contribute to the group by modeling the Spanish language whenever possible. As the group grows, we may decide to incorporate some sort of short lessons, and share that responsibility between adults. 

*This group is for bilingual families who are actively pursuing bilingualism together**. We will stay in the target language (Spanish) during these play dates as much as possible. So please be prepared to maintain conversations in Spanish at the level you are able to, both among adults and adults to children. Making that the expectation is the only way we can really create the target language environment. We don’t believe in “language policing” our kids, so we can’t control which language the children use amongst themselves, but let’s allow this setting to show the “communicative need” for Spanish to encourage your family that it is important to speak it! ☺️
