*Acclimating to The Elementary Elements (@ Batiquitos Lagoon)

Session 1: June 23-June 26

Early learning classes are immersed in nature, designed to build Kindergarten and 1st Grade skills. Leveraging CA State standards, children engage in games and inquiry-led learning, bridging any gaps and readying young learners for the next stage in their education.

Nurture the Inner Naturalist

Session 2: June 30 - Jul 3 @ San Dieguito Park

Allow your child to observe and learn about the amazing species that call San Diego County their home. We will learn about where these animals live, what they eat, and how to look for signs of their presence. The foundation of a nature conscious child starts young.

*Rhythmic Patterns in Nature (@ Batiquitos Lagoon)

Session 3: July 7 - July 10

The natural world is full of recurring patterns, colors, and textures that appear in different contexts. As co-learners, teachers and students will study nature and take inspiration from her patterns, symmetries, trees, spirals, meanders, waves, foams, tessellations, cracks, and stripes, weaving them into a creative journey that includes both group and individual works of art.

Cultivating A Conservationist

Session 4: July 14 - July 17 @ San Dieguito Park

Students and teachers will explore the importance that animals and plants have on the environment. Students will use investigative strategies to learn about how humans are impacting the environment and help create solutions. They will witness the interconnectedness of our unique environment through observation, play, and investigation.

*Plant Protectors (@ Batiquitos Lagoon)

Session 5: July 21 - July 25

Each preserve that we utilize for our learning spaces are filled with an abundance of flora allowing us the unique opportunity to learn about these amazing plants firsthand with students. Students will explore the importance of plants for the environment as well as learn how to utilize them in medicinal ways. They will discover the edible plants of these parks and preserves and understand the process of safe and sustainable foraging.

Art of Storytelling

Session 6: July 28 - July 31 @ San Dieguito Park

Long before humans read or wrote, they shared their history and stories orally, through the art of oration. In this class, children will bring stories to life through dramatic play. They’ll have the props and costumes to take their play to the next level. Children will be encouraged to act out a scene from their imagination, both individually and in groups. They’ll explore the depths of dramatization and narration, while also engaging with new means for self-expression.
