Learn how to safely use a jeweler's torch to anneal metal, making it softer and easier to shape with hammers and anvils. You will also learn how to join non-ferrous metals using heat and solder, a lower-melting alloy.
This is a hands-on safety and practice class where students will use studio materials to practice, but no projects or products will be created.
The orientation lasts two hours, followed by an optional two-hour guided lab (2pm-4pm) for further exploration and practice with the tools and techniques covered.
Currently enrolled and returning students must complete this course to be eligible for Jewelry & Metals Studio Access (open studios), available later this semester.
