This class is designed to give the beginning oil painter the basic skills necessary to start their painting journey. We explore color theory and experiment with foundational tricks and methods used to create a wide variety of oil paintings. We will talk about layering and dry time that is important with oil painting. This class combines step by step guidance and one-on-one conversations to support all students in their progression towards their own unique painting process and style.
Students will work from still-life arrangements, learn to use photo references of landscapes and more to create compositions that portray accurate values and form. The instructor will give demonstrations and brief lessons, with most of the class spent learning through hands-on experience. Come join our supportive studio community!
Student's will purchase most of their materials. This class has an additional materials fee for shared studio materials including paper towels, charcoal, etc. Please note that we are a solvent-free studio and use walnut oil (provided) in our oil painting classes.
