East Winds Band Camp, held on the campus of Centennial High School (CHANGE FOR 2025 AS OF 4/1/2025) is the premiere day band camp in the Metro area and has been offering rewarding, inspiring musical experiences to young musicians for over 10 years. Rehearsals are directed by top band directors from middle schools and high schools in Northwest Oregon. Rehearsals run from 9 am to 4 pm with several break-out sessions for focused instrument sectionals, jazz or chamber ensembles, and World Music.

Of course- students break for lunch (Students will need to bring their own nut-free lunch and snacks as we do have staff with nut allergies)!

Campers sight-read many pieces of music for the first two days, over the last two days of rehearsals bands will focus on selections of music that they will perform for the Friday Concert. Counselors and other directors sit in rehearsals with campers to give them one-on-one instruction when needed.

The first day of camp is an action-packed day of sight-reading, sectional times with all students of like instruments where younger students can learn from older students and getting back in musical shape since it has been summer break! Students will then be placed in a band according to their playing ability, and the jazz ensembles are open to students with no prior experience!  The instrumental sectionalists are all top performers and studio teachers in the Metro area, including the Oregon Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, and Oregon Ballet Theatre. Students entering grades 6-11, with a minimum of one full school year of playing experience on their instrument, for the 2025 school year are encouraged to attend. Children entering 6th grade may attend only if they already have one year of experience playing their instrument. This camp is not suited for students who have not yet played a band instrument. Students are placed into a concert band, and have the option to be in either a jazz band, chamber ensemble, or world music.

Vibe of Portland supports school music programs and their directors and it is our intent to motivate students to continue to thrive in their school band and jazz band, and chamber ensemble programs.
